2, 3.5 hour days. The next session begins the following Saturday.

Participants are required to complete Module One to be admitted into the virtual classroom. Module One takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

How is MHFA delivered?

Module 1: Launchpad to Heroism (Online & Self-Paced): Get ready for action with this online module. Accessible with a code from your facilitator, it lays the groundwork for your MHFA skills.

Modules 2 & 3: Level Up in the Virtual Classroom (Live via Zoom):

Once you've mastered the basics, join your fellow heroes in a live Zoom session. Get interactive, ask questions, and practice your skills with guidance from a pro facilitator.

How long is the Mental Health First Aid course?

Module 1 takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Modules 2 and 3 are 3.5 hours each. The MHFA course is a total of 9 hours.

When does Mental Health First Aid expire?

While the MHFA certificate itself doesn't expire in Canada, to stay sharp and up-to-date on the latest mental health support strategies, we recommend refreshing your skills with recertification every few years.

Is Mental Health First Aid accredited?

Module 1: Introduction to MHFA - Self-Directed Online (2 hours)

  • Guidelines for MHFA for cross-cultural competencies.

  • Applying ALGEES to scenarios - substance use problems, depression and anxiety.

Module 3: Crisis Situation - Virtual Classroom (3.5 hours)

  • Preparing for challenges and reluctance.

  • Identifying differences between crisis and emergency.

  • Developing a safety plan in crisis and emergency.

  • Applying ALGEES to scenarios - suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, reaction to trauma, severe effects of alcohol use.

  • Self-stigma and self-care.
