Yes, this course is accredited by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (Opening Minds).
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) created its Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) courses as part of a major, collaborative effort to promote mental health in Canadian workplaces. The entire curriculum is built on the foundation of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, which provides the core principles and framework for the training.
The creation of the National Standard was a highly collaborative process. The MHCC led the initiative, commissioning the Standard in partnership with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) and the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ). A technical committee of expert volunteers was assembled, including health and safety professionals, executives, union representatives, and legal experts, to guide the content.

No, they are related but not the same. Mental health is an individual's overall emotional and psychological well-being. It's how a person thinks, feels, and behaves in their daily life and is influenced by a variety of factors, both personal and environmental.
Psychological health and safety, on the other hand, is about the workplace's role in supporting or harming that mental health. It focuses on the organizational policies, procedures, and culture that can either protect or pose a risk to an employee's psychological well-being.
-
It helps ensure legal compliance, enabling organizations to meet their duty to provide a safe workplace that includes psychological well-being. This proactive approach also excels at risk mitigation, helping to prevent costly incidents of burnout, stress-related illness, bullying, and harassment that can lead to grievances and disability claims. Beyond risk management, PHS training fosters an improved culture by creating a more positive, respectful, and supportive environment, which directly contributes to enhanced productivity. In a psychologically safe workplace, employees are more engaged, productive, and innovative.
