Your Instructions
Mental Health First Aid: Adults Supporting Youth
Read the instructions carefully!
-
We reserve the right to withhold training and/or dismiss participants who we believe are not actively present in the class. Should a participant be dismissed due to a violation of class expectations, a no-show fee ($75) will be charged for rescheduling. This includes, but isn't limited to, instances where a participant:
Does not have their camera on and/or…
Fails to respond or participate in the chat box discussions.
Does not attend breakout room sessions.
Does not respond to verbal prompts from the moderator or facilitator.
Operating a moving vehicle.
Absent from more than 30 minutes of the scheduled class time.
Not completed Module 1 prior to attending the class session.
-
We depend on each other to make the class happen! As per Mental Health Commission standards, we need a minimum of 8 participants to have the class. No-shows put the class at risk of being cancelled and this is unfair and disruptive for other participants. We encourage participants to show up for class through our no-show policy (subject to $75 fee). MHCC attendance standards classify the following as no-shows:
Absence from more than 30 minutes of the scheduled class time.
Not completing Module 1 prior to attending the class session.
-
Here are the Safe Space Guidelines. Be prepared to come to class with the MHFA scenarios.
-
Use the access code that was sent to your email to access Module One and the Reference Guide: Register for an account with your access code here: learn.openingminds.ca
-
You cannot be admitted into the virtual classroom without sending proof of completion of Module One. Submit your badge of completion to info@imindify.com
FAQs
-
Mental Health First Aid is a virtual, participant-centered training experience delivered via Zoom. The format blends a self-directed module (Module 1) with interactive, facilitator-led training (Module 2 and 3). You'll benefit from lively group discussions, practical application through scenario-based activities and role-playing to master the MHFA action plan, and dedicated time for questions and answers.
-
Our virtual class runs for 8 hours, so we know it's a long day! We want you to be as comfortable as possible. Feel free to bring your coffee and snacks, have your pet join you on screen, and even take your training outside if you want some fresh air. Please make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable and focused for the day.
-
We recommend completing it early to avoid any last-minute technical issues that could prevent you from accessing the class.
To secure your spot in the class, you must complete Module 1 at least 30 minutes before the class begins. If you don't, you may be marked as a no-show and your seat could be given to someone on the waitlist.
-
No worries. Sometimes this happens, and we might need to connect to Opening Minds tech support; contact us, and we will help you out.
-
Module 1 counts as 2 hours.
-
You don't need to have the MHFA Reference Guide for class. It's a resource you can use to review the course material and explore additional information beyond what's covered in the training. The guide is available digitally for one year. If you would like a physical copy, please let us know and we can help you purchase one from the Opening Minds team.
-
No, you don’t need to download Zoom to access it. Just click the link we send you to access the Zoom meeting, and you'll be placed in a waiting room.
-
Yes. This is an interactive, scenario-based course that requires group work. We expect you to participate as you would in an in-person class.
Please ensure your camera is enabled. Should you experience any technical difficulties with your camera, please contact the moderator or facilitator for further instructions.
-
Your Zoom invitation is in the same email thread that includes your intake form and a link to pay the remaining balance. If someone else registered you for the course, they might have received the booking confirmation. Please contact us if you need help finding it. As an extra reminder, we will also send the Zoom link again a day or two before the course starts.
-
Your participation is key to a great session, and every contribution counts! Don't hesitate to share your thoughts or ask questions in the chatbox instead.
-
We know time zone discrepancies can be tricky and are a frequent reason for missed classes. To make sure you join at the right time, be sure to check the course schedule on our Upcoming Courses page. It's designed to automatically show you the correct time in your location. It’s your responsibility to confirm your time zone.
-
If you notice a discrepancy in the course time or availability between our website (iMindify) and the Opening Minds platform, please be aware that our website is the most accurate source for the schedule. The times on our scheduling page are automatically adjusted to your local time zone.
-
This course does not conclude with a quiz. Your certificate will be awarded based on your active participation in the class sessions.
-
Yes, upon successful completion of a Mental Health First Aid course, participants receive a certificate of completion, certifying them as Mental Health First Aiders. The validity of this certification comes from the Mental Health Commission of Canada (Opening Minds).
Currently, the MHFA certificate has no expiration, but this will change soon in 2026.
-
It can take up to 5-10 business days to receive your certificate from Opening Minds. Make sure to keep an eye on your spam folder! If you have trouble finding your certificate, contact iMindify, and we will help you.
-
While Mental Health First Aid courses often involve discussions and scenario-based learning, you will not be expected or pressured to share your personal experiences with mental health challenges. The focus is on learning how to support others. However, some participants may choose to share voluntarily if they feel comfortable doing so. The training environment aims to be respectful and supportive of everyone's comfort levels regarding personal disclosure about mental health.
-
If you feel uncomfortable during any part of the Mental Health First Aid training, it's important to communicate this to the facilitator. Certified MHFA facilitators are trained to create a safe and supportive learning environment and can offer support or adjust activities as needed. You are always in control of the level of your participation, and it's okay to take breaks or step back if you feel overwhelmed. The goal of the mental health training is to empower you, not to cause distress.
-
If a class is rescheduled, we will inform you immediately. Please note that we cannot and do not provide refunds in such cases. However, we will transfer you to a class of your choice. We can also suggest make-up classes that have a low probability of being rescheduled.
You will have plenty of opportunities to take a make up class. You have one year to complete the course before your code is expired.
-
Once your code has been issued, it cannot be refunded. Our courses are non-refundable because of how access codes are managed. When you register, we purchase an access code for you from the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). This code is uniquely registered to you and is linked to the certificate you will receive upon completion.
Please note that no course is guaranteed to run unless a minimum of eight participants are registered.
While we cannot guarantee a specific course, we offer many options for you to transfer to another session. You have one year to complete the course after registration.
-
Unlike providers who offer training occasionally, iMindify is dedicated to this work full-time. We don't offer refunds, but our policy is designed to ensure you never miss out. With our extensive class schedule, we can guarantee a make-up session that fits your needs. Other providers may offer refunds because they lack the flexibility to accommodate make-up sessions or have strict registration deadlines that prevent them from being as flexible as we are.
-
Organizations that mandate Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training are typically aware of the policies that certified facilitators must follow. Given our reputation, it is probable that the organization has an existing relationship with iMindify. To better assist you, please provide us with details regarding your deadline, and we will work to accommodate your needs.

We strive not to reschedule our classes.
As per Mental Health Commission of Canada standards, we require a minimum of 8 people to attend the MHFA course.
All registered participants are required to attend their scheduled courses. No-shows put the class at risk of being cancelled, which is disruptive and unfair to other participants. To avoid this inconvenience, we have a strict policy of charging a $75 no-show fee. To avoid the no-show fee, contact us within 5 business days before your scheduled course.
MHCC attendance standards classify the following as no-shows:
(1) Absence from more than 30 minutes of the scheduled class time, (2) Not completing Module 1 prior to attending the class session, (3) Should a participant be dismissed due to a violation of class expectations, a rescheduling fee of $75 will be applied.
We strive to make our virtual classes as close to an in-person experience as possible. This includes expecting participants to engage as they would in a traditional classroom setting.
Cameras are required to be on during virtual training sessions.
We understand that exceptions may arise. Therefore, cameras may only be turned off with explicit permission from the moderator or facilitator. This policy serves several important purposes. First, it helps us verify your attendance and active participation in the class. As iMindify is legally responsible for your well-being during the class, we need to ensure all participants are in a safe environment. Additionally, seeing your fellow participants helps to foster a more connected and fun learning environment for everyone.
We reserve the right to withhold training and/or dismiss participants who we believe are not actively present in the class.
Should a participant be dismissed due to a violation of class expectations, a no-show fee will be charged for rescheduling.
Classes are non-refundable.
We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances can arise. The MHFA certification course is non-refundable but transferrable.
If you are unable to attend a scheduled class, please give us a minimum of 5 business days' notice. This will allow us to transfer you to another class at no additional cost.
If a class is rescheduled, we will inform you immediately. Please note that we cannot and do not provide refunds in such cases. However, we will transfer you to a class of your choice. We can also suggest make-up classes that have a low probability of being rescheduled.
Why are classes non-refundable?
Access codes are purchased by the facilitator through the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). Access codes are registered to the participant and the certificate they will receive from the MHCC.
Once a code has been issued to participants, it cannot be refunded.
