Currently, the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Supporting Youth certification issued in Canada does not expire, and there is no official recertification program available.
Upcoming Changes: What to Expect
The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is currently revamping the MHFA Supporting Youth program structure. We anticipate that these major changes will take effect in 2026. At that time, the initial certification will transition to a 2-day course format, and the certification will then require renewal every three years to maintain active status.
More information regarding the required renewal/refresher process and specific fees will be released by the MHCC as the new program launch date approaches.
